1. Wastewater Bargaining

The bargaining committee met with the County bargaining representative on April 12 and May 3. Most of the discussion was about cost of living calculations. Look for an update on the May 3 meeting at the next TEA monthly meeting, May 17.

2. Transit Contract Negotiation Sessions open to members

Transit's arbitration hearing begins in June. The Transit Bargaining Teams will meet with the County on June 5 - 9 and June 26 - 27 and the hearing is open to members. The location will be The Summit Law Group, 315 Fifth Avenue South, Suite 1000, Seattle.

3. VEBA

At the last monthly meeting, the Board and attending TEA members discussed whether TEA should be involved in VEBA accounts. TEA has not recently held a vote to change the current situation, which is that upon retirement:

The IRS established rules for implementing VEBA. Rules do not prohibit non-retirement-eligible members from voting, but TEA has historically chosen to limit votes to those who are eligible to retire. In the past, TEA had requested a list of eligible people from the County. The County'’'s webpage on VEBA is: KingCounty.gov/audience/employees/benefits/retirement/VEBA.aspx

4. Vacancies

Several committees that are established by TEA bylaws have vacancies. A discussion of committee vacancies has been added to the agenda for the May 17 monthly meeting.

5. Next Regular Meeting

The next regular meeting will be held May 17 in the 5th floor in the Harappa-Cloaca conference rooms, Noon-1PM.

Please contact Gillian before 10 a.m. on May 17 if you have a specific agenda item you’d like to add.
